A man was arrested Thursday on a shoplifting charge, and for allegedly stealing a vehicle.

The Murray Police Department took a shoplifting report from a business on South 12th Street. They acquired security video footage of the suspect and the vehicle in which he left. The next day, an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and saw a man get out and walk away. When they checked on the vehicle and spoke to a woman inside, officers said they could see a pair of shoes that had been reported stolen.

When the vehicle's license plate was checked, it did not match the vehicle, so police checked the VIN, which revealed that it was reported stolen in South Carolina.

Police detained the woman, 31-year-old Katie Christian, of Florida. The man, identified as 36-year-old Jason Kerbyson of Michigan, was found and taken into custody.

Kerbyson was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 and theft by unlawful taking under $500. Katie Christian was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released at the scene.
