The subsidy benefit amount that a household receives will be based on its level of poverty and the type of fuel used for heating.

For assistance all applicants must bring these items with them at the time of application:

1.  Their most recent heating bill or a rent receipt if the applicant resides in public housing.
2.  Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Resident card (Green Card) for each members in the household.
3.  Proof of income for every member that had income for the prior month to application. All individuals (households) who had no income must obtain a ZERO INCOME FORM FROM THE LOCAL OFFICE PRIOR TO APPLYING. If the income is Social Security, SSI, VA, Railroad, or pensions, etc. they must have an award letter. THIS YEAR'S BANK STATEMENTS CANNOT BE USED FOR VERIFICATION OF INCOME.
4.  Clients must be responsible for their own heating costs or pay heating costs as an undesignated portion of their rent.
5.  Clients must not have in excess of $2,000 in liquid resources (such as money in a checking account, savings, CD’s, stocks, bonds, etc.) or $3,000 if at least one person in the household is age 60 or older and/or disabled, except for households where a member has a catastrophic illness, the amount may be $4,000 when the resources are being accessed for medical and living expenses.
