SMITHLAND, KY - The U.S. 60 Cumberland River bridge at Smithland reopened to traffic on Thursday night. Inspectors found no structural damage after the bridge was struck by a runaway barge Thursday afternoon.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard report, the Motor Vessel Larry Tilley struck a pier of the bridge with fourteen loaded rock barges in tow. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet inspectors conducted the inspection and reopened the highway a few hours after the incident.
