A Mayfield woman was arrested Tuesday after police say a search warrant revealed she had received about 35 pounds of marijuana in the mail.

Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement officers said they received information on Monday that two packages containing a large quantity of marijuana was being shipped via US Mail to an address on Taylor Drive in Mayfield. On Tuesday, Detectives began conducting surveillance on the home, and two packages were dropped off at around 11:30 a.m. and accepted by the resident, 43-year-old Ernestine Ross.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the home and seized the two packages containing about 35 pounds of marijuana. They arrested Ross and charged her with trafficking in marijuana over five pounds, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Mayfield Police Department, Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, and the US Postal Inspector. Police say the investigation is continuing.
