The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's District 1 Bridge Crew has made a temporary repair to a finger joint on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge, so the work zone lane restriction for eastbound traffic has been removed. All lanes are now open.

Engineers are continuing to evaluate the joint to determine if a more permanent repair can be made, or if it will have to be replaced.

Traffic had been restricted to one lane since Saturday on the bridge at the Marshall-Livingston County Line. Sometime during the previous night, the joint was damaged and it created a hazard for vehicles in the right-hand lane.

Some joints on the bridge were recently replaced, but this was not one of them. Just last week, engineers examined the joints as part of a detailed inspection and the joint appeared OK at that time. Engineers say it's possible the joint may have been struck by a passing truck or that recent extreme heat may have contributed to the problem.
