Trigg County Semi Crash Claims Two NC Men
By WestKyStar Staff
TRIGG COUNTY, KY - One lane of I-24 West in Trigg County was closed for nearly 24 hours while personnel cleared the site of a semi crash that killed two North Carolina men Sunday night.
Kentucky State Police received a call about the wreck around 10:15 pm Sunday and determined that a westbound tractor trailer rig had run off the right shoulder of the roadway and struck several trees before coming to final rest.
Both occupants of the semi, 34-year-old Joseph A. Robinson of Wendell, NC and 55-year-old Larry D. Artis of Wilson, NC were ejected and pronounced dead on the scene by the Trigg County Coroner. It is not known at this time which one was driving or if they were wearing seatbelts. Initially both westbound lanes were closed, but one was later reopened.
Crash debris was spread along a wide area, prompting State Police and the Division of Vehicle Enforcement to decide to wait until daylight for accident reconstruction. Westbound traffic was restricted to one lane until 5:40 pm Monday.
