A man police in Trigg County were searching for has been arrested in Christian County.

The Trigg County Sheriff's Department tells WKDZ Radio that the Christian County Sheriff's Department arrested 30-year old Steven Dewayne Mayton Sunday afternoon. Mayton was wanted in connection with some incidents that occurred early Saturday morning.

Deputies say the incident began around 2:00 am Saturday when Mayton stopped and asked directions from a deputy.  The deputy says he detected a strong odor of suspected marijuana and got out of his vehicle to investigate. While the deputy was reaching inside the vehicle to remove the keys, Mayton reportedly sped away.

Deputies say Mayton fled the scene at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, with the chase ending on KY 274, where Mayton wrecked his vehicle running off the left side of the road, in a corn field.  He then fled on foot.  A bag of suspected cocaine was found a short distance away from the wrecked vehicle.

Deputies also believe he later stole a car.

Mayton was booked into Christian County Jail under a $5,000 bond.
