Two Area Agencies Get Federal PPE-Related Grants
By West Kentucky Star Staff
WESTERN KENTUCKY - The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet has announced grant funding in the fight against COVID-19 for 30 public safety agencies, including two in western Kentucky, and they are encouraging related businesses to apply for future grants.

The city of Murray received $39,022 for the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Part of a $693,800 grant to the Kentucky Department of Corrections includes funds to purchase supplies for the Kentucky Correctional Industries Garment Plant at Kentucky State Petitionary in Eddyville. The supplies will be used to make additional PPE.

In a press release, Governor Andy Beshear said more than $3.4 million in federal Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding has been designated to help these agencies better respond to emergent needs while continuing to provide services to Kentucky families.
Beshear said, "Our state, and nation, are experiencing an alarming rate of new cases on a daily basis. This funding is critical as we work to not only sustain operations but increase public safety during these challenging times."

Both public and private agencies with a connection to the criminal justice system are eligible to apply for funding in order to prevent, prepare and respond to COVID-19 during the current state of emergency. Allowable program expenses are related to new hires and overtime pay exclusively related to COVID-19 response, equipment purchases (including law enforcement and medical equipment, and personal protective equipment), supplies, training and travel (particularly to distribute supplies).
