Icy roads were to blame for a crash in Mayfield that hurt two people.

Deputies in Graves County responded to the 22 mile marker of the Jackson Purchase Parkway for a two vehicle accident with injuries.  Deputies say 44-year-old Randal Cox was operating a motor vehicle while towing a utility trailer on the Parkway when he apparently began to slide from running over black ice.

Deputies say Cox then lost control of the vehicle, striking a guard rail, and came to a rest on the roadway.  47-year-old Michael Holton was traveling the same direction operating a semi truck and trailer.  Deputies say Holton also hit the black ice as he was attempting to avoid collision with Cox.

Holton struck the same guard rail and came to a rest in the shoulder by the guard rail.  Holton was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The State Highway Department was notified to salt the road due to the black ice.

The Parkway was closed for approximately 1 1/2 hours until the vehicle were towed away and the roads were cleaned from debris and ice.
