Two Women Hurt When Pick-Ups Collide on US 62

CALVERT CITY, KY - Two women were hurt early Thursday morning when two pick-up trucks collided on US 62 near Riley Circle about one mile west of Calvert City.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, a westbound pick-up truck driven by 19-year-old Jessica Rogers of Paducah drifted across the center line about 1:40 am and struck an eastbound pick-up driven by 32-year-old Lannette N. Nieder of Grand Rivers head-on.

Rogers was extricated and taken by EMS to Lourdes for treatment of injuries. Nieder was also extricated from her vehicle and then flown by PHI helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment of injuries.

Both women were wearing seatbelts when the collision occurred.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

  Texting is bad, but I really cringe when I see people putting make-up on while driving down the road. Save a life, go all natural! Most women look better without it anyways.

  Driver inattention plain and simple. Most accidents are caused by this. Either, eating, texting, putting on make up, lighting up a smoke, playing the radio, what every. People need to just slow down and pay attention. Young and Old. Regardless, leave 15 minutes earlier and drive like you have some sense and responsibility for others on the road.

  I'll admit that teenagers probably text while driving more often than other drivers, but I know for a fact I'd rather have a teen texting while driving near me than some 40-50 year old texting or even trying to dial a regular number while driving. I've had more near misses with that age group than teens. Just because you are an "adult" doesn't mean your are better at doing it than a teen. Teens have been using cell phones since birth these days, and it's basically an extension of their hand. Baby boomers on the other hand are downright dangerous.

  Maybe we can dispense with blinkers on cars because too many people don't use them and old people seem to leave them on when they do. Maybe everybody should move because studies show most accidents happen close to where the driver lives.

  Makes you wonder if texting had anything to do with a 19 year old "drifting" across the center line? Not saying she was but one my way through Lone Oak about an hour ago I saw 5 different teenagers "texting" while driving down the road. Why don't the phone companies just do away with texting and then you won't have to worry about all the one's who can't pull over or wait til the arrive at their destination to text.
