Governor Matt Bevin will be a speaker at the first WAVE Conference at the Columbus Belmont State Park next week.
WAVE, Western Kentucky Alliance for a Vibrant Economy, is described as a four county consortium to reverse job losses in Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman Counties by promoting the area’s biggest resource, the rivers.
Much of the discussion is expected to focus on the Panama Canal expansion that will increase local river traffic.
The conference will include panels and workshops consisting of local economic, political, and business leaders discussing entrepreneurship, legislation, and tourism issues.
Governor Bevin is expected to open the conference, followed by a senior Obama administration official for river traffic, the Administrator of the US Maritime Administration Paul N Jaenichen.
Other key speakers include state Workforce and Education Cabinet Secretary Hal Heiner, Murray State's President Bob Davies and Dr. Tim Todd and State Senators Danny Carroll and Stan Humphries.
The conference will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
