Daytime restrictions along the Purchase Parkway have gone into effect at the Interstate 24 interchange for the next several weeks.
Large quantities of material from the northwest quadrant of the existing cloverleaf is being moved by truck to help construct flyover ramps for the new interchange. The contractor will have flaggers on the eastbound I-24 ramp that joins the parkway, and on both northbound Purchase Parkway ramps onto I-24.
The flaggers will frequently stop traffic on these ramps to allow the trucks to move around the area. The job could take about 40 days to move about 200,000 cubic yards of material.
The work zone includes a 55-mile-per-hour speed limit with double fines for citations.
This is part of an ongoing reconstruction of the interchange to allow Interstate 69 to be extended southward along the parkway in the future. The new I-24/I-69 Calvert City interchange has a target completion date of July 2018.
