The number of counties the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force covers has been cut to nine due to decreased funding.
Fulton County Sheriff Bobby Hopper told WPSD-TV that he knew there were budget problems, but he didn't realize how significant they were until he found out at a recent meeting that the county would no longer be part of the organization.
Hopper says that means the officer the task force supplied to focus on only drug crimes has transferred back east.
Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon said he pulled out of the organization three months ago because of the budget problems. He says he wants to start another task force for smaller counties and plans to talk with other sheriffs next week about their options.
