Woman Arrested after Marshall Crash

AURORA, KY - An Illinois woman is facing charges after crashing her car on Eggners Ferry Road in Benton, Kentucky Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses say 42-year-old April M. Smith of Woodriver, Illinois, was speeding and passing cars in 'no passing' zones around 4:30 pm.
After she wrecked her car, when a Marshall County deputy got there, he reported a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. Smith told officers she had consumed alcohol and a controlled substance the night before. Deputies discovered Smith's car was still registered under the previous owner's name, and she did not have an insurance card.
Smith was taken to the Marshall County Jail, and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Failure to Notify Address Change to Department of Transportation, Failure to Register Transfer Motor Vehicle, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree.
