A Dawson Springs woman was injured, and a horse killed, in an accident involving a vehicle Wednesday night in Hopkins County.

WKDZ reports that Hopkins County Dispatch began receiving numerous calls just after 8:20 about a horse being ridden on the roadway by a female in dark clothing, near St. Charles on Nortonville Road.

The report indicates that numerous deputies arrived in the area, but before the horse could be located, a vehicle driven by 82-year-old Leon Smith, of Nortonville, struck the horse and rider near the 8000 block of Nortonville Road.

The rider, 52-year-old Judith Henderson, was taken to Baptist Health-Madisonville.

The horse died at the scene as a result of injuries, and Smith was reportedly not injured.
