Hillary Clinton's opponents say an independent audit shows that she hasn't been truthful about her use of private email as secretary of
state. And they say it's fresh evidence that she's not trustworthy or qualified to be commander in chief.
The review by an inspector general says Clinton and her team ignored clear guidance from the State Department that her email setup broke federal standards, and that it could leave sensitive material vulnerable to hackers.
But a Clinton spokesman says the audit shows that Clinton's email practices were consistent with what others at the department have done. Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon says the report shows problems with the State Department's electronic record-keeping systems ``were longstanding.'' He adds that her use of a private email server "was known to officials within the department during her tenure.''
Still, Republicans say the audit shows that Clinton was in clear violation of the Federal Records Act. Party chairman Reince Priebus says it's the latest example of what he calls Clinton's ``bad judgment'' that he says "broke federal rules and endangered our national security.''
