Magnitude 2.6 and 2.4 earthquakes were reported along the New Madrid Fault Line Thursday evening, in Southeast Missouri.

According to the USGS at the University of Memphis, the first quake, (2.6), was centered just east of Bessie, Tennessee in rural New Madrid County, Missouri, near the New Madrid bend of the Mississippi River. This is approximately 37 miles west of Union City. It occurred at 7:55 pm CDT. The second quake, (2.4), occurred at 9:15 pm CDT, and was centered less than 1/4 mile from where the first one took place.

The USGS says that a quake of 2.5 is the threshold of humans being able to detect the ground shaking. No damage has been reported from these earthquakes.
