For years President Barack Obama railed against unlimited spending in American political campaigns. He argued that voters were being shut out of a secretive, unaccountable system.

Now, as Obama enthusiastically raises money for Democratic super PACs, he's embracing some of the same secretive elements of that system.

That's drawing charges of hypocrisy from good-governance advocates who say the public deserves to know what Obama's saying and to whom he's saying it.

On Wednesday, Obama attended a California fundraiser for a Democratic Party committee. Officials released the number of guests and how much they paid, and reporters were allowed in.

Just hours earlier, Obama was at another fundraiser benefiting a super PAC. Officials barred the media and declined to release details about who showed up and how much they had contributed.
