MO Governor Criticizes Akin's Comments
By AP
JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Missouri's Democratic governor is joining critics in condemning remarks made by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin about rape.

Akin said in a weekend TV interview that women's bodies are sometimes able to prevent pregnancies after what he called "a legitimate rape." The statements set off a furor and at least one Republican U.S. senator has called on Akin to step aside.

Governor Jay Nixon said Monday that he completely disagrees with Akin's comments, which he called offensive and harmful. Nixon said in a written statement the comments were "inaccurate, wrong and remarkably out of touch with reality."
