President Barack Obama's best-laid plans to go all out for Democrats in the final weeks of the midterms are running smack into a widening Ebola crisis.

Hours after unveiling an ambitious itinerary to boost Democratic candidates for governor, Obama abruptly called off his first stop Wednesday. He postponed a New Jersey fundraiser, plus a rally for Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy that would have been Obama's first major campaign appearance this year.

Instead, he summoned top officials to the Cabinet Room for an emergency meeting on Ebola.

The rare cancellation reflected a growing sense of urgency at the White House to deal with Ebola head-on.

Earlier in the day, officials disclosed that a second Dallas hospital worker had tested positive for Ebola and flown on a commercial airplane the night before.
