CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - A Southeast Missouri State University athlete has died, nearly two weeks after the scooter she was riding collided with a pickup truck.
Meg Herndon of Fenton, Mo., suffered a severe brain injury in the accident on Sept. 9 near the campus in Cape Girardeau. Herndon died Thursday afternoon at a St. Louis hospital.
The driver of the truck was cited for failure to yield and for not wearing a seat belt.
Herndon was a member of the Southeast soccer team, and was a nursing student. The university has canceled this weekend's soccer games.
