For the first time in seven winters, snow was reported to be on the ground in all fifty states at the same time.

The National Weather Service tweeted on Thursday that as of Wednesday morning, patchy snow was spotted in satellite imagery and by webcams on the peak of Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

A more infrequent occurrence is snow in Florida, but as of Wednesday, a trace of snow was on the ground in the Florida panhandle north of Pensacola. Florida has already seen three snow events this winter.

Snow was reported to cover more than 52 per cent of the surface of the 48 contiguous states.

The last time snow was on the ground in every state simultaneously occurred on February 12, 2010.
