App Helps Gardeners Identify Pests, Problems
By AP
KNOXVILLE, TN - Home gardeners can now tap their smartphones for help to care for their landscapes and stay on track with seasonal chores.

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture has helped develop a mobile app called IPMLite for use in more than 20 states.

Lead developer Amy Fulcher says the app includes images to help identify pests and diseases and tips on plant care. It also can send alerts when it's the right time for tasks such as pruning or fertilizing.

The app follows a more comprehensive version for professional landscapers. IPMLite sells for $9.99 and is available for iPhones or Android phones.
