Crews Work to Contain Shawnee Forest Blaze
By AP
POMONA, IL - Fire crews battled Monday to contain a fire that damaged at least 14 acres of southern Illinois' sprawling Shawnee National Forest.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Patricia York told the Southern Illinoisan that at least one-quarter of the blaze was contained at Little Grand Canyon near Pomona in Jackson County.

Authorities believe the fire was caused by a person. The blaze began about a quarter-mile from the trailhead and about 20 feet off the trail.

York has said the fire burned only national forest land, and the only structure threatened was a restroom shelter at the trailhead.
