State climatologist Jim Angel says the recent distribution of tornadoes doesn't match the typical Illinois tornado season, which runs March through June. Two-thirds of tornadoes normally occur during those months.
But in 2012, seven out of 15 tornado reports were on the last day of February. The year 2013 saw a massive tornado outbreak on Nov. 17. And in 2014, two notable tornado outbreaks were on Feb. 20 and Oct. 13, dates outside the normal tornado season.
It's been quiet so far, early into this tornado season.
Angel says it's too soon to draw conclusions about climate change.
Angel works at the Illinois State Water Survey of the University of Illinois.
