Illinois Jury Finds Homeless Man Guilty of Murder

BELLEVILLE, IL - Jurors in southern Illinois have found a homeless man guilty of killing and dismembering another homeless man in an East St. Louis warehouse in 2010.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that a St. Clark County jury convicted 37-year-old James Pierson of first-degree murder on Thursday afternoon in the death of Zachary Irvin. Another homeless man, 42-year-old Dennis Iagulli, pleaded guilty to murder in January and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Prosecutors say the men killed Irvin because they believed he attacked another homeless man. Parts of Irvin's body later were found smoldering nearby. Prosecutors say the men used a meat cleaver and hacksaws.
A St. Clair County judge is to sentence Pierson on July 30.
