Illinoisans Mark 11th Anniversary of September 11
By AP
CHICAGO, IL - Family members of Illinois soldiers killed in wars since Sept. 11, 2001, are remembering their loved ones.

Gov. Pat Quinn attended an event Tuesday to mark the 11th anniversary of the attacks. The governor was at a Chicago library where a traveling exhibit featuring hand-drawn portraits of fallen Illinois soldiers is on display.

One of the pictures is of Army Pfc. Omar Torres. He was killed in Iraq in 2007 at age 20. He died in Baghdad when an explosive detonated near his unit.

His mother, Doris Torres, spoke at the library about her son and shed a few tears. She says the commemoration is a chance to reflect and remember.

Quinn called for "remembrance, reflection and service." He ordered state buildings to fly flags at half-staff.
