Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis says the fight to stop the closure of dozens of city schools will not end with the school board's upcoming vote on the proposal.

She says she hopes the union's three-day protest march will draw attention to the neighborhood schools slated for closure under the city's plans.

Hundreds of teachers, parents and students began the march Saturday. The idea is to rally in different parts of the city and converge Monday to deliver a petition to Mayor Rahm Emanuel demanding a moratorium on the closure plan.

Emanuel wants to shut 54 schools to help save money, but the plan has been met with fierce resistance. That includes rallies and lawsuits.

The union re-elected Lewis to a second three-year term on Friday.
