Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she hasn't decided whether to appeal a court ruling striking down Illinois' ban on the concealed carry of firearms to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday rejected Madigan's request to reconsider its ruling that the ban is unconstitutional.

A three-judge panel in December gave lawmakers until June 8 to approve a new law. Madigan had asked the entire court to consider the case.

She now has 90 days to decide whether to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In a statement, Madigan says the appellate court ruling gave Illinois lawmakers a framework for drafting a new law.

She says it's critical the Legislature enact a law that protects public safety.

Lawmakers are holding statewide hearings on the issue.
