Motorists Warned About Pavement Buckling
By AP
SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois Department of Transportation is warning motorists to be on the lookout for buckled roads as they drive around the state.

Transportation department officials say the extreme heat is affecting roadway pavement around Illinois, resulting in buckling and potholes.

According to the department, there have been about 30 incidents of pavement failure on the state highway system due to high temperatures in the last two weeks. Maintenance crews are being dispatched to identify possible pavement blowouts to make any necessary repairs.

Transportation department officials say that while repairs are usually completed within a few hours, pavement breaks can cause driving hazards that can't be predicted.
