Prosecutors: Peterson Case Will Withstand Appeal
By AP
JOLIET, IL - Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow says he's very confident Drew Peterson's murder conviction will withstand appeal.
Glasgow spoke to reporters outside the courthouse after jurors found Peterson guilty of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004. Glasgow called it "a very sobering moment" and said the verdict makes a statement about violence against women. Glasgow called Peterson "a coward and a bully."
Glasgow thanked the jury and thanked Savio's family members, who he said "were with us through the entire matter." He also thanked the Illinois State Police for reconstructing the case. He said at one point during deliberations he called Stacy Peterson's pastor, Neil Schori, "and he prayed with me on the phone."
Stacy Peterson is Drew Peterson's fourth wife who went missing in 2007.
