Amish Buggy Bill One Step from Final Passage

FRANKFORT, KY - One vote remains before lawmakers allow the Amish to forgo a longstanding traffic safety measure in the name of religious freedom.

The House voted 75-21 Tuesday for a Senate bill to allow the Amish to use reflective tape on the backs of their horse-drawn buggies rather than bright orange triangles that some object to.

The Amish complain that the signs call attention to them, which is against their religion, and the triangular shape represents the Trinity, which they're not allowed to flaunt.

The proposal returns to the Senate for final passage.

Republican state Sen. Ken Winters of Murray filed the legislation because several Amish men in his western Kentucky district were jailed for refusing to pay fines for not using the orange signs.

  "waist my time"? LOL No wonder you can't comprehend actual reality. You're hungry instead of paying attention. I know it's a logic path therefore not your forte, but it's a triangle AND bright colors. And they abide by it, not 'god's' law. Your point and defense of them defies both logic and reason. Hope you don't vote. The country will be in an even bigger mess than it is.

  No tm, I won't be ever able to "get it" when to "get it" means losing common sense and logic. That's for y'all to do. Anyone can interpret anything out of any "holy" book and decide they don't have to follow established laws? So when someone kills a homosexual it will be okay because it's what their bible told them was the thing to do? Y'all will just have to allow it since they too have been around from the 1700's. And that's just for the Christians. Radical Islam will have to be fine with you as well. What a ridiculous statement/argument you have.

  fs, the constitution was written centuries ago and was for white men who all acted/thought the same. Those that look and think ONLY like us, have rights. All others need not apply. So much for THAT. tm, you prove my point for me and lack reading comprehension. Read what I wrote, not what you thought I did for a change. There is NOTHING in their bible that prohibits them from following our laws. The yield sign is a triangle and yellow; so they don't bother to yield? Idiocy. They trust in traffic signs every day or GET RUN OVER! They are obviously trusting in reflective tape over god, so your argument is moot.

  This upholds the Constitution as it was written. This was the inevitable conclusion to this saga. Either this, or the courts would have ruled in favor of the Amish. The seperation of religion and state was established to prevent thigs like this from happening. Excuse me for saying this, but there is no one in Graves county smart enough to second guess the men who wrote the constitution.

  tm; show us where it's in their bible that the orange slow vehicle sign is against the religion, from the 1700's please. Now, they can't pass a budget, won't legislate that illegals don't get benefits, but they will pass this. Let's see what happens when a tourist hits them since they don't have the NATIONALLY APPROVED SIGN!
