By West Kentucky Star Staff
FRANKFORT - During his Friday update, Governor Andy Beshear provided the latest COVID-19 case information from across the state.

Beshear reported 948 new cases of the virus, bringing Kentucky's total number of cases to 55,704. He noted that 151 of the new cases were from children ages 18 and younger.

"This is the third highest number of positive cases we've ever had in a single day," said Gov. Beshear. "Our positivity rate is also going up."

Beshear reported nine new deaths, raising the death toll in the state to 1,044. The new deaths include an 85-year-old man from Christian County.

At least 10,822 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, although that number is likely law since not all health departments report recoveries.

Kentucky's positivity rate currently stands at 4.70 percent.
