Beshear says the governor or the state have no say in who is a refugee in the United States. “I just don't think we should overreact,” Beshear said. “I think we should use common sense, just like we've always done.”
The governor says the United States has always responded to those who needed help and were in crisis, no matter what the world outlook may be. He pointed to the 9-11 attacks and the fact that America did not close or shift its borders, in the face of a full scale attack on our own soil.
"America has always been a welcoming nation in terms of helping people when they're in crisis," Beshear said. "And I see no reason to change that."
