Governor Steve Beshear says the General Assembly can stand at ease.

Beshear says he will not call the legislature back for a special session to deal with a list of pending legislation. Among the legislation left on the table was a bill that would have addressed the shortfall in the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System, which is currently looking at a $14 billion gap.

Beshear says he would have liked to have seen the local option sales tax and statewide smoking ban go through but says they are positioned to pass during the 2016 session. The governor does not anticipate using the veto pen on anything that has come out of this session.
