Kentucky's Republican governor has praised a federal judges' ruling blocking President Barack Obama's bathroom order for public schools, saying it reaffirms the right of local control.

Kentucky was one of 13 states that sued Obama after he announced public schools that do not allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice could risk losing federal funding. Sunday, U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor temporarily blocked Obama's order.

In a news release, Bevin called Obama's order "absurd" and said he will continue to make sure such decisions are made by Kentucky and not the federal government.

Justice Department officials have said they are disappointed with the ruling and are reviewing their options.
