Bowling Green Gearing up for 200th Birthday
By AP
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The city of Bowling Green is gearing up for its 200th birthday later this year with plans for a four-day celebration and contests.

City spokeswoman Kim Lancaster told The Daily News that plans for the Sept. 18-22 party have been in the works since about January.

Lancaster said the celebration will feature a writing contest for Bowling Green and Warren County students in the fifth through eighth grades. Students will be asked to write about why they love Bowling Green.

The pieces should be 1,000 words or less and will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

A winner will receive a $300 prize.

The week will also include a giveaway of tickets to the Kentucky Museum, the Historic Rail Park and Train Museum and Lost River Cave.
