U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield announced the launching of the annual art competition to determine the high school student that will represent Kentucky’s First Congressional District in the 2016 Congressional Art Competition in Washington

Students wishing to participate should submit their artwork to Andrea P’Pool in the Hopkinsville district office by April 25. Feel free to contact her at 1-800-328-5629. Once all the artwork has been received, each entry will be available to be viewed by “liking” Congressman Whitfield’s Facebook page at facebook.com/RepEdWhitfield.

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual, nationwide contest sponsored by Members of Congress and the Congressional Institute to showcase the talent of their creative high school constituents. Submissions from winning artists will hang in a part of the Capitol complex known as the Cannon Tunnel - a walkway connecting the House office buildings with the U.S. Capitol and Capitol Visitors Center. Members of Congress along with congressional staff and countless visitors travel this corridor daily, enabling the selected artwork to be viewed by a truly nationwide audience.

The final winner will be determined by a panel of local art experts who will judge the artwork on various criteria. The winner and a guest will be invited to attend the Congressional Art Competition Reception on Capitol Hill being held in late June, 2016. The winning entry from the First Congressional District will be displayed in the Cannon tunnel, with the second place entry being displayed in Whitfield’s Washington, D.C. office and third place entry being displayed in his main district office in Hopkinsville.

“Every day as I pass these works of art on my way to the Capitol, I continue to be impressed with our young people’s talent,” stated Whitfield. “It is truly an honor for a student to have their work exhibited in this location and I encourage all interested students from the First District to submit their work for consideration.”

Entries must complete and return the two attached documents with their submitted artwork.  For additional information, click http://www.house.gov/content/educate/art_competition/
