The Creation Museum has moved a step closer toward tripling its size.

Media outlets report that on Wednesday, the Boone County Planning Commission recommended a zone change for a 9-acre parcel at the museum in Petersburg dedicated to a literal interpretation of the Bible.

The commission tried to appease residents who object the expansion by limiting the number and noise level of outdoor events at the museum, as well as screening so museum equipment isn't visible from adjoining neighborhoods.

Boone County Fiscal Court will have final approval on the zone change, likely next month.

The museum hopes to build a parking lot with 800 to 1,000 spaces, followed by a three-story, 210,000-square-foot additional building for traveling and rotating exhibits. A plaza for outdoor events would also be built.
