Event to Help Disabled Children Expanding
By AP
GREENUP, KY - An event to help disabled children by exposing them to farm animals has become so successful that the organizer says it will be a continuing event.
Greenup resident Frank Potter told The Independent that he got the idea for Farm Days after injuring his leg on the job a couple of years ago and meeting some disabled and special-needs children while going through therapy. He said he learned during therapy that animals have a unique ability to bond with people, especially children.
He enlisted the help of a friend who works as an outreach consultant for the Kentucky School for the Blind and some rural friends to come up with an event where children and their parents got some experience with farm animals such as horses and cows.
