The world's first field dedicated solely to blind "beep baseball" players has opened in Frankfort.
WEKU-FM reports (http://bit.ly/1RffABn ) the field was dedicated Friday, with funding having come from county and city governments, independent schools, the Frankfort Parks Department and the city's Plant Board.
David Wickstrom, President and Founder of Beep Baseball Kentucky, says the field will have positive effects on the lives of many blind Kentucky residents.
The modified sport involves batters swinging at a large, noise-making baseball and then running to one of two buzzing bases. The batter must reach base before a fielder grabs the ball, or the batter is out.
The field is within the Panther Athletic Complex, near Capitol View Park.
Players who aren't blind can take part too — they just have to be blindfolded.
