During his Wednesday update, Governor Andy Beshear announced 93 new cases of novel coronavirus in the state, for a total of 680 cases.

As of Wednesday, two more individuals have passed away after contracting the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 20.

Beshear sent a strong message to Kentuckians about social distancing, warning everyone of the temptation to get out while the weather is nice.

"We cannot let a beautiful weekend ultimately harm the people around us," Beshear said.

During the update, Josh Benton, deputy secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, spoke about the issues many have experienced with unemployment claims. Benton says the website has been completely revamped, and that many of the issues are due to the call center going from fielding approximately 1,500 calls a day, to anywhere from 80,000 to 200,000 calls per day now.

Beshear also warned Kentucky residents of COVID-19 related scams. He says they have seen scams involving at-home tests being sold, and drive-through testing operations.

He also announced that the Kentucky National Guard is being deployed to four food bank warehouses across the state to help sort and pack food into boxes in an effort to help feed seniors, families, and displaced workers.
