Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Gray raised more money than Republican Rand Paul during the past three months, but Paul still has more money overall than his rival heading into the Nov. 8 election.

Gray reported more than $1.8 million in donations to the Federal Elections Commission. That total included a $500,000 loan from Gray himself. Gray has now loaned his campaign $1.5 million in total.

Paul reported more than $1 million in contributions. However, the former Republican presidential candidate still has more than $1.8 million left in the bank compared with Gray, who has just over $1.2 million. Paul has outspent Gray by more than $5 million.

Paul is seeking a second six-year term in the U.S. Senate. Gray, the mayor of Lexington, is making his first run for federal office.
