The grandmother of Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes has died.

Elsie Crawford Case died Thursday according to a news release from Grimes' office. She was 84.

Case, along with Grimes' paternal grandmother Thelma Lundergan McHugh, introduced Grimes to Kentucky voters in 2011 with a memorable TV commercial poking fun at her long name. McHugh died in 2012.

Case returned to the airwaves during Grimes' 2014 run for the U.S. Senate in an ad telling of how she dealt with her husband's stroke. She also used Facebook and Twitter to start a ``Grannies for Grimes'' initiative focused on senior issues.

A native of Maysville, Case and her late husband Omar operated a men's clothing store for 30 years.

The funeral is Monday in Maysville.
