Hearing in Frankfort on Student Restraint Policy
By AP
FRANKFORT, KY - A public hearing over a proposal to restrict how students can be restrained in classrooms across the state has drawn dozens of comments.

Advocates for the regulation say it is needed to protect students, but several superintendents expressed concerns that it was vague and too constrictive in violent situations.

The regulation bars using restraint or seclusion unless the student poses "imminent danger of serious physical harm to self or others."

Many who spoke at Tuesday's hearing before the state Board of Education asked for changes before the regulation is finalized.

Board Chairman David Karem said after the hearing that the comments would be considered but that the panel was unlikely to change its support of the new policy.
