The newly revamped Kentucky Horse Park Commission has hired a new executive director for the popular tourist attraction that has drawn scrutiny from some state lawmakers.
Just days after Gov. Matt Bevin reorganized the commission, its members on Thursday selected Laura Prewitt to take over the job as the Lexington
attraction's executive director.
In doing so, the commission decided not to renew the contract of the park's current executive director, Jamie Link. Prewitt assumes the job starting July 1.
Link's stewardship of the horse park drew criticism earlier this year from state Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer. Link told lawmakers he fixed problems exposed in an audit of the park covering a period before his arrival.
Link said Thursday he'll do whatever he can to ensure a smooth transition.
