Kentucky State Police has launched its summer safe driving campaign, called  Operation B.L.U.E. Lights.

The acronym "B.L.U.E." stands for basic traveling safety and vehicle maintenance; lower speed in work zone areas; undivided attention on the road and attention to motorcycles; and enforcement of speed, DUI and occupant protection.State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer says the approach is in
response to the increasing number of fatalities on Kentucky roads.

The agency has a checklist to be given out to drivers at safety checkpoints with information about getting vehicles road-ready. The agency has also designed a "safe driving pledge" form that troopers will distribute at festivals, fairs and community forums.
