A Kentucky teacher got an unexpected surprise by giving birth during school.

Local news outlets report that eighth grade teacher Allison Zemba went into labor at East Jessamine Middle School in Nicholasville on Thursday afternoon and delivered a baby girl in the school's bathroom.

Friday was supposed to be Zemba's last day before going on maternity leave and her due date was Dec. 30.

Jessmaine County Schools Superintendent Kathy Fields says Zemba's husband, another teacher and the school nurse were there to help during the delivery.

Fields says a message was sent to parents notifying them of the birth. Officials say both mother and baby are doing well.

The school is planning a celebration for Zemba when she returns.
