Kentucky's nearly 120,000 Vietnam veterans are being recognized in a proclamation naming today as Vietnam Veterans' Day in the state.

Gov. Steve Beshear signed the proclamation. Heather French Henry, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, encourages people to thank Vietnam veterans for their service. She says the special day in their honor is a reminder to recognize those veterans.

State officials say 1,109 Kentuckians died in Vietnam. Their names are inscribed at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort.

The officials say 118,000 Vietnam veterans live in the state.
