Kentucky's unemployment rate fell again last month. The jobless rate dipped to 4.9 percent in October, down from 5 percent in September.

Kentucky's unemployment rate hasn't been that low since May 2001.

Economist Manoj Shanker says job growth in Kentucky's private sector has been strong. Key factors like low energy prices and near-zero inflation have helped the goods-producing industries.

Seeing no growth last month was the mining and logging industry, which has lost 1,800 jobs in the past year.

The labor numbers do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for work within the past four weeks.
